If the dealer’s face card is an ace, the player is also allowed to make an insurance, which is a side bet which insures the player’s hand against a potential dealer Blackjack. If a player gets two cards of the same face value he can also split the hand in two, placing another bet of the same size on the table, and this way play with two hands. There are some variations of Casino Blackjack Rules for other types of the game that give players also the option to surrender. If the player wins a hand the house pays to him double what he betted.

The player’s turn ends when he decides to stand or if he goes bust, in which case he loses his bet. If the player stands then it’s the dealer’s turn.
As opposed to the player, the dealer doesn’t have the privilege to choose, but he makes his moves following rigid rules. He always hits if the value of his hand is 16 or lower and always stands if the hand is 17 or higher. In some variations of the game the dealer can also hit when he has a soft 17 or, in other words, a 17 made of an ace and a six. Being able to hit a soft 17 increases the house edge, therefore you should always inform yourself if this is allowed for the specific blackjack game you're playing. In other variations of Casino Blackjack rules, the dealer can also peek to check for Blackjack if his face card is an Ace before the player’s turn. If in the end the dealer wins the hand, the player loses his entire bet.
